One of the underpinnings of HSA’s reputation is our ability to negotiate satisfactory remedial actions with regulatory agencies. This allows our clients to make decisions efficiently and effectively regarding a project’s technical direction, expenditures and compliance status. Brownfields: Brownfields are abandoned. idled, or under used industrial and commercial facilities
where expansion and redevelopment is complicated by real or percieved environmental contamination.
The EPA launched the Brownfields Economic Redevelopment Initiative in January 1995 to empower States,
communities, and other stakeholders in economic redevelopment to work together in a timely manner to prevent,
inventory, assess, safely cleanup, and sustainably reuse Brownfields. Since inception, HSA has worked with private investors
and municipalities to minimize the uncertainties of contamination often associated with these sites. We have provided
services that have included public representation, public health and environmental risk assessment, and site
assessment and cleanup.
Natural Attenuation: Among the alternatives considered for the remediation of soil and groundwater is the use of natural processes to reduce or remove the contaminants of concern. Under favorable conditions, the use of natural attenuation can result in significant cost savings and compensate for uncertainties encountered in complex subsurface settings. In order to demonstrate that natural processes are effective in reaching established goals, it is necessary to determine that transformation processes are taking place at a rate which is protective of human health and the environment, and that these processes will continue for an accepted period of time. HSA are experts at evaluating the physiochemical properties of chlorinated aliphatic and petroleum hydrocarbons on the attenuation processes of chemical transformation, dispersion, dilution, sorption and volatilization within the subsurface.
