Structural Forensics
Design and construction of structures require an interaction with the built environment and the environment itself. This produces the opportunity for a constructed facility not perform as intended. Additionally, a perfectly performing structure may degrade over time or be impacted by natural disasters. HSA’s structural forensic engineers are frequently consulted to help determine the cause of unexpected performance of structures. HSA’s team of engineers routinely determine the primary physical cause of the incident and any other contributing physical factors. This determination must be made prior to establishing responsibility and liability for the structural damage or failure. Our forensic engineers routinely provide consultation, investigation, scientific analysis; prepare technical reports; and serve as expert witnesses for a variety of project sites including: residences, commercial buildings, seawalls, piers, and high-rise structures. Our experience includes evaluations of homes, commercial buildings, industrial facilities, and historic structures. Our areas of specific expertise include residential and commercial roofing, foundations, building envelopes, water intrusion, construction defect evaluation, and premises liability evaluations.
