What We Do
Geotechnical Engineering
Geophysics
Geophysical data often provides subsurface information that cannot be obtained by invasive methods. HSA employs an experienced staff of geophysical services personnel who are well-trained and certified to provide a wide variety of geophysical techniques. Comprised of a diverse group of licensed geologists, scientists, and field technicians, HSA uses these services to assess multiple engineering and forensic applications. HSA has provided a variety of these services to municipalities, private companies, and the insurance industry. Some of the geophysical applications have included the location and delineation of unknown buried utilities, site suitability studies, geologic hazard assessment, landfill and buried waste detection/delineation, evaluations of soil/rock properties and mapping of concrete reinforcements.
A major advantage of HSA’s geophysical investigative techniques versus other methods is its ability to provide rapid data acquisition with little or no site disturbance. HSA’s professionals provide imaging capabilities for a variety of field applications including: ground penetrating radar (GPR), electrical resistivity imaging (ERI), electromagnetic (EM) Profiling, and Seismic/ Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW). Because soil properties, site geology, and other factors can vary greatly, no single geophysical imaging technology will work in all situations. Geophysical methods can be used independently or integrated with other investigative methods such as test borings and other sampling methodologies for site investigations. Our services include carefully defining specific survey objectives, acquiring various geophysical data at a wide range of sites, analyzing the data using state-of-the-art computer software, and providing our interpretation of the results.
